You have a significant diagnosis such as cancer, diabetes, auto-immune,
arthritis, GERD (commonly called acid reflux), thyroid issues, etc.

People facing a significant diagnosis have multiple levels of challenge. The first, of course, is the disease process itself and the associated symptoms. The second level of challenge is often dealing with new symptoms caused by the medical treatments themselves. Finally, the third level of challenge is recognizing that drug treatment has its limitations. At times, drugs are able to slow the progression or actually cure the disease. However, often the drug treatment is only working to suppress symptoms, leaving the underlying cause untreated.

As we know, prescription medication is not without side effects. Often the side effects of one medication lead to the addition of another. Many people report that once they are taking 3-4 medications, they often never feel like themselves again. And of course, medications are expensive!

Nutritional therapies can positively impact the management of disease, by decreasing symptoms, slowing or stopping disease progression, and in some cases actually reversing or healing the disease. These therapies can lead to decreased side effects of medications, decreased dosages needed, and in some cases, complete elimination of the need for prescription medication. Also, there are some prescription drugs that lead to nutritional deficiencies, which could be avoided by combining the science of nutrition with conventional treatment. (Testimonial: Gene Eidenberg)

For example, someone undergoing conventional treatment for cancer (usually surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy) can support their health throughout the process with healthy eating and the use of vitamins, minerals and herbs. You can use nutrition to keep yourself healthy and maintain your weight throughout treatment. There are also nutritional approaches that can address or minimize side effects to the treatment.

We can help you develop a program and action plan for better management of your disease, in conjunction with your conventional therapy. Many chronic health conditions can be improved and better managed by improving nutrition and lifestyle choices. Personal habits such as exercising, managing stress, stopping smoking, reducing alcohol use, improving eating habits, and adopting a more anti-inflammatory diet will positively influence the occurrence of symptoms and management of most chronic disease.

Lastly, because knowing what to do is often not enough, we can help you understand your own personal change process, and then successfully coach you through that process. In fact, our work with clients over the years has led us to recognize that a coaching structure is the most effective way to achieve lasting results, i.e., to change fundamental eating and lifestyle habits. Our coaching style is both compassionate and insightful. In addition to helping you discover your own unique path to change, we will also help you identify your key obstacles and help you leverage your strongest motivating factors. We work together to create strategies and actions that you can commit to and accomplish.

We address things from self-talk to planning, to social support systems to time management, whatever it takes to help you succeed in making the changes that will improve the quality of your life.

"I am a 66 year old male in good health who went to Judy Burgio because of periodic arthritis pain in my left knee and gout pain in my right foot. I had been on medication for the gout for over a year. Within three months of adhering to Judy's anti-inflammatory diet, the pain in both the knee and foot were significantly reduced. Within another six weeks I was no longer taking Celebrex for the knee or Allopurinol for the gout. For the past 18 months I have remained on a less stringent version of the diet then I adhered to for the first 5 months and I have remained pain and medication-free. I should add that as a result of the diet I shed 20 pounds and have seen a reduction in both my blood pressure and overall cholesterol. The diet allows for a wide array of choice and I could not be more delighted with the resulting improvement in my health."
